Fish fauna in the Mekong - Chao Phraya region is well-known for its great diversity. However, there is a lack of biological information based on empirical studies. We do not have basic data on fish species, including data on distribution and life history. In cooperation with local universities and research institutions in Thailand, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Cambodia, the NEF is implementing research projects in order to gain knowledge on the status of fish fauna in the region.
It is expected that the data obtained from field research in this project will be used in future policy making for sustainable resource use and development in the Mekong - Chao Phraya region. |
