| Q. What fields of study does the NEF support? |

The NEF aims to support research and activities concerning nature conservation. We assist academic and basic research projects addressing specific questions and deepening scientific knowledge. Activities which expand knowledge of nature conservation on the part of the general public and local community are also supported.

| Q. Who is eligible to apply? |
| A. |
Researchers, students, NGO staff, residents of developing countries are all considered as eligible applicants. There are no age or gender restrictions. However, the specific programme that you choose may have other conditions which may apply. For example, the Research Grant Programme requires applicants to possess at least five years of experience as a professional researcher.

| Q. Is it possible to apply for the programme from non Asia-Pacific regions? |
| A. |
Yes, it is possible to apply if the applicant is from a developing country. However, researchers from developed countries are not eligible. |

| Q. Is it possible to invite researchers from developed countries to the project? |
| A. |
Yes, they are allowed to participate in the project as a participant or an advisor. However, the NEF is not able to give support for their travel expenses. |

| Q. How do I apply for the programme? |
| A. |
First, please send a pre-application to the NEF Secretariat by email. If NEF directors consider the project to be appropriate, an NEF officer will request applicants to submit a full application.

| Q. What are the obligations if my project is approved? |
| A. |
An NEF grantee should submit (1) a progress report of 500 to 700 words with several photographs once every six months after its commencement and (2) a yearly report of approximately 3,000 words with several photographs and a detailed financial statement once every year. The NEF will review the yearly reports and adjust the amount of the grant for the following year if the performance is deemed unsatisfactory. At the completion of the project, the grantee should submit a final report with a detailed financial statement. |

| Q. What expenses does the NEF cover or subsidise? |
| A. |
Financial support is provided for any expenses used for research and activities. However, the NEF is unable to disburse salaries to applicants. In addition, the NEF is not able to provide financial assistance for the purchase of vehicles, computers or computer accessories. |

| Q. Does the NEF provide financial support for participation fees for meetings? |
| A. |
In a principle, we do not provide financial support for participation fees for training sessions, workshops, seminars, or conferences. |
