The NEF has given support to a total of 234 research projects since its establishment in 1989 (as of 1 June 2007). Support has mainly been given to full-time researchers from research institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
Beginning in the Japanese fiscal year 2004 (April 2004-March 2005), the NEF introduced new programmes within the Research Grant Scheme in order to extend its support to not only experienced research scientists, but also researchers from younger generations, graduate students, and other individuals concerned. |
