The Research Grant Programme aims to support field research projects and studies within the scope of nature conservation in developing countries, mainly in the Asia-Pacific region.
Applicants must be research scientists who work full-time at locally based research institutions in the developing countries of the region. |

| Applicants eligible for grant |
An applicant must
- be a national of a developing country, preferably in the Asia Pacific region.
- be conducting research at a local research institution or relevant organisation.
- propose a study related to nature conservation in the fields of natural science or social science.
- propose a study that involves fieldwork for collecting data in his/her own country; and.
- have sufficient experience in professional research work to conduct the proposed study.

| Grant |
Maximum of 2,000,000 Japanese yen as a total grant per project. An annual grant cannot exceed 1,000,000 Japanese yen. |
| Obligations as a grantee |
- To submit an English progress report of 500 to 700 words with several photographs once every six months after its commencement.
- To submit a full English report of approximately 3,000 words with several photographs and a detailed financial report once every year.

If the project is to run for more than one year, applicants are required to submit a work plan with a detailed budget for the following year at the end of each budget year. The NEF will review the work plan together with the reports stated in obligation 2 above. Adjustments will be made to the amount of the grant for the following year if the performance is deemed unsatisfactory. |
