Among the new projects starting in 2024, a group led by Assistant Professor Ai Suzuki of Ritsumeikan University had a survey from October 2 to 10 in Bangladesh. Please take a look at the new item, "Scientific research and conservation measures of the fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) in the inland wetlands of northeastern Bangladesh: A feasibility study" added to Projects in Progress of Our Projects.

On 7 October, we held a brainstorming meeting at the NEF office to consider the current and future projects. Participants were Drs. Midori Kawabe and Masanori Doi (Directors), Dr. Kenji Fukuyama (Councillor), Dr. Akiko Yamamoto (Expert), Dr. Masaaki Yoneda (member of the NEF Selection Committee), and four staff members. We received valuable opinions and suggestions regarding the Research Grant Scheme, CGF Programme, nature conservation projects, and new projects. We will use these opinions and suggestions to improve the NEF’s projects and management in the future.
From August 25 to September 11, the team of Professor Masaharu Motokawa (Kyoto University) invited two collaborators each from Laos and Vietnam. The main activities are posted in Project Updates of Species diversity of terrestrial vertebrates in the mountains of Indochina in Our Projects. A team led by Associate Prof. Shuichiro Tagane of Kagoshima University had conducted a survey in Laos from September 2 to 13, 2024. The details are posted in Project Updates of Plant diversity assessment in limestone karsts in Laos and Vietnam in Our Projects.
On August 29th, Professor Dr. Masaharu Motokawa (Kyoto University) and six collaborating researchers from Lao PDR and Vietnam visited the NEF office after their research in Vietnam. The results of their research so far were summarized, and we exchanged opinions on future cooperation.
