University for young generations is one of the places where to acquire knowledge and experience, but its education is not available for everyone. For example, there are students who have to give up or drop out from education for economic reasons although they wish to continue their study, particularly in developing countries.
The NEF Scholarship Programmes offers financial supports to those students who are willing to study the subjects related to the natural environment but not have enough financial resources for university level studies. Through the Programmes, the NEF aims to develop human resources in developing countries of Southeast Asia who understand natural science and intend to work in the field of the nature conservation in the future. The programmes do not offer any supports for studying abroad.
The NEF has supported a total of 7,905 students in eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region since 1991 (as of April 2022). Currently, scholarships are provided for students in Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Bangladesh with the cooperation of the NEF's local counterparts.
